September has been an eventful month for OurHood. We have changed our Social Media strategy to allow us to highlight our top posts each week for different categories.

We wanted to make sure that we proudly show off our top South African citizens, food and places, in order to connect our community and create pride among everyone.

4 September: Arbor Week

OurHood would like to encourage you to plant a tree and remember why they are important to both ourselves, as well as animals and wildlife.

5 September: International Day of Charity

OurHood pays homage to all the kind souls that work hard to help others. We also encourage South Africans to perform random acts of kindness every day.

10 September: World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world since 2003.
This year’s theme is “Working Together to Prevent Suicide”.

15 September: World Cleanup Day




It is every single person’s responsibility to make this change, as well as be responsible in their daily activities by ensuring their recyclables are collected for recycling, as we all continue to work towards a common goal: creating a cleaner world.

21 September: World Peace Day

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on the 21st of September. Established in 1981, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences, and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

24 September: Heritage Day

26 September: World Environmental Health Day

This year’s WEHD’s theme of “Global Food Safety and Sustainability” aims to support the provision of safer food, to make use of precious water and nutrient resources, and for communities to increasingly value sustainable food production.

28 September: National Good Neighbours Day

Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; National Good Neighbours Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.
